Rat breeders: free Rattus rattus breeding pairs available

Please help keep this species available as pets for future generations

Greetings, fellow rat breeders!

Day old baby Roof Rat

We’ve developed a line of genetically tame Rattus rattus (arboreal cousin to Norway rats.) This has been tried in the past, but so far unsuccessfully for various reasons (inbreeding, etc.) However, it looks like we have been largely successful as our rats are healthy and appear to breed true.

We would like to gift breeding pairs to any serious breeders willing to help us ensure the survival of this line. The rats would be free to pick up in the Orlando area (where we are located), or we could help you arrange shipping. Our colony has already been PCR tested for zoonotic diseases, but I would be happy to have them re-tested (at the breeder’s expense) and obtain any necessary health certificates. We can offer any support or advice you may need to successfully breed them.

We have already done most of the hard work, and at some point we’d like to be able to retire from breeding, hence we would like to get our rats in other capable hands besides our own. If you are interesting in helping us, or know someone that might be, please do get in touch. Thanks!
